We went to the Groton Townhouse at 1PM on Monday, January 23, 2019. We are in agreement that it was somewhat disappointing. Their website says the “Groton Townhouse was established in July, 2007. We are a family friendly restaurant with an extensive menu.” These facts are true. The menu is extensive. We also both agree that the website is terrible, with an awful black background. But that is neither here nor there.
Mama Foodie ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a spinach and feta omelette with home fries and wheat toast. Big baby ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and the 2+2+2. Without further ado, the restaurant review of the Groton Townhouse.

The person who named Groton Townhouse obviously has no idea how to spell, because you do not put a “g” in rotten. On that note, the acoustics in there were lousy. Probably because the building was huge. The bathroom was unclean but not too scary.
Another quote from the Groton Townhouse’s restaurant is, “perfect pancakes”. After two pancakes, two slices of bacon and two eggs; my thoughts on the pancakes are that they are far from perfect and leave much to be desired. The pancakes were undercooked and came apart too quickly on the knife. It turned out the knife was getting more of the pancakes than I was. The bacon was overcooked, and the eggs were greasy and runny. The chicken noodle soup might have been the highlight of my meal. Then again, that isn’t saying very much. The rest of my meal wasn’t very good. The soup was your standard diner chicken noodle soup, and the crackers tasted a bit old.
One of my dining companion’s burgers had cheese on it, even though he had specifically ordered it with no cheese. Other than that, the service was okay, but was not friendly at all.
Overall, stay away from the rotten townhouse.

Groton Townhouse is exactly what it claims to be. A roadside diner with an extensive menu close to the Naval base in Groton. I really wanted to like this place. I love a good diner. Sadly, our experience at the Groton Townhouse did not make the case for this being a good diner.
The restaurant itself is quite large. The ceilings are very high, and the space feels kind of empty and cold with the expanse of the slanted ceiling with minimal décor. There were a handful of other patrons, but the place was not busy. The acoustics made the restaurant seem much more crowded than it was.
The restaurant and the ladies room were pretty clean, and the busboy was the one person working there who was really on top of things.
My food was unremarkable. The soup was clearly chicken soup out of a can to which they had added some small bowties. The toast was cold by the time my eggs arrived, and it was undercooked. The hash browned potatoes were mushy and greasy. One thing they did get right was that my eggs were well done, as requested.
The service we received on December 23 was pretty awful. We were seated promptly, though not greeted with a friendly smile. A woman came and took our order. We did not wait too long for our soups. When our food showed up, we were informed that there had been a shift change and we had a different server. Unfortunately, she did not check with us to confirm our order, and one of our companions was presented with a cheeseburger after being very specific about not wanting any cheese at all. He had even said, “Cheese is bad” for emphasis. The burger was returned to the kitchen, and a new one came out shortly afterward. It was clear from our further interactions with our server that she was not particularly happy to be waiting on us. We waited a long time for our check, paid and left. Most likely never to return.
