Szechwan Garden Chinese Cuisine in Ocean City New Jersey has two rooms and a kitchen.  It’s a tasty little place and is worth a try if you are in the Ocean City area. We both wish we could go there right now, even though we have just eaten dinner.  W also both agree that this is the best Chinese food in Ocean City.

Beef Lo Mein
Beef Lo Mein

Szechwan Garden is a small Chinese restaurant in Ocean City. It has tasteful décor and reasonable acoustics. Cleanliness-wise it is uneventful. It’s the food that makes this restaurant stand out.

I ordered my standard Chinese restaurant order: beef lo mein. It was outstanding. The noodles have a salty sweet flavor, while the beef was amazing!

The service is polite and quick. What more can you ask from the service?

Overall it’s a good place to eat, I will go back definitely!

I must admit that I was so pleased to find this restaurant in Ocean City.  I had no idea what to expect going in.  I never really expect to find great Chinese food at the beach.  I had resigned myself to a week of pizza and fried seafood.

Do not let the appearance of this restaurant fool you.  It looks like nothing special.  The restaurant has two rooms with a host stand in the middle.  The room on the left is used by the family who owns the restaurant, and the right hand side is used for serving customers.  The bathroom is in need of some serious work.

The restaurant itself was clean.  The bathroom was rundown, and could have been cleaner, but it was not “scary”.  I did see one little boy get stuck in the bathroom.  His mom had to help him open the door, and he was kind of upset, so consider yourself warned.

As I often do, I began my meal with egg drop soup.  The soup was not too salty, and had light fluffy egg in a clear broth.  I think Szechwan Garden makes their own crispy noodles, and they use the extra wide flat ones.  I prefer the narrower noodles, but these tasted fresh and crispy.  The sweet and sour chicken was very good.  I liked that it was served with the sauce on the side.  That way, the breaded chicken stayed crispy throughout the meal.  I did, however, miss the pineapple.  The steamed vegetable dumplings that we ordered for the table were a hit.  They were a little gummy, but we all enjoyed them anyway.

The service was excellent.  Especially after we returned for the second time in one week. The food comes out to the table as it is ready, so don’t expect everything to come at once.  The servers were very attentive, and if they didn’t understand us because of a language barrier, they got a staff member who did.

I would recommend Szechwan Garden for dining in.  I also suggest going there early in your stay.  You may decide to go back a second time, as we did.
